Leaf: Green in the spring time yet turn red, orange or yellow
in the fall time. The size of the leaf is about 4.5 inches long and
3.5 inches wide. Majority of the Sugar Maple leaves are 5 lobed with
a rounded space between.
Trunk: Skinny, light brown with light green moss
Root: Thick going in all different directions
Form: Tall tree with small trunk and small branches and plenty of leaves.
Fruit: Appears in the fall. 1-1 1/4 inches long. Browned colored.
Bark: Light gray bark with rough ridges. Deep and large roots.
Location: Upper Beach Valley Trail near a creek
Habitat: freestanding near flowers and small grasses
Range: Mosty in Northeastern U.S. yet can go as far as Florida and Canada
Surrounding Areas: The Sugar Maple was surrounded by small grasses with
flowers and other large maple trees.

Economic/Ecological Importance:
1. Sap can be boiled for syrup
2. Winter browse, food, for white-tailed deer, moose, snowshoe hare etc.
3. The leaves have high levels of calcium, magnesium and potassium.
